Calibration & Repair
Calibration & Repair Service
Calibration of the Lange skinfold caliper is recommended every two years. Calibration includes testing the reading of the dial at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50mm.
Jaw Pressure & Springs
The general rule of thumb for the effective lifespan of the springs is 5 years, although it depends on how much the caliper is used. Over time, the jaw pressure will be reduced. The speed at which that happens depends on how many times the lever is exerted ("cycles"). After 10,000 cycles, the pressure will be reduced by 10%.
For example, if the tester measures 5 people per week with a 4-site Durnin method, and double checks each measurement, that would be 5x4x2x52 = 2080 cycles per year, or a 5 year life of the springs.
While spring replacement is not currently available, it will likely be available by early 2026.
